What happens to your data when you use Melony and when you visit this site
Melony is a free desktop application for Windows, developed and maintained by Pîrvu Alex Vasile, an independent developer based in Romania. This page explains what happens to your data when you use the Melony application and when you visit melony-daw.com.
Data controllerFor the purposes of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the data controller is:
Pîrvu Alex Vasile
Romania
sol.fioriginal@yahoo.com
If you are in the European Union and believe your personal data has been handled improperly, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority. In Romania, that is the National Supervisory Authority for Personal Data Processing (ANSPDCP), at dataprotection.ro.
The Melony applicationMelony runs entirely on your device. When you use it:
- No data is sent to me or to any third party.
- No account is required.
- No analytics or telemetry are collected.
- No usage statistics are reported.
- Project files, audio recordings, and settings are stored only on your computer, in the folders you choose.
Melony connects to the internet in one situation: if you use the AutoPitch effect or the Neural Amp feature, the app downloads model files the first time each is used. Those downloads come from public content delivery networks (jsdelivr.net and esm.sh). Those networks see your IP address as part of serving the file, the same way any download does. They receive no other information about you from Melony.
The websiteThis section applies to melony-daw.com and its subpages.
Hosting
The website is hosted on Firebase Hosting, a service operated by Google Ireland Limited. When you load a page, Firebase servers automatically record standard request information that your browser sends. This typically includes your IP address, the page you requested, the date and time of access, the HTTP status code, and your browser's user agent string.
Google processes this data on my behalf for the purposes of serving the site, keeping it available, and detecting abuse. The raw logs are retained for a limited period, typically around 30 days, after which they are removed or aggregated.
Analytics
The website uses Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors find and use the site. GA4 records things like which pages are visited, how long visitors stay, what country they connect from, and what kind of device and browser they use.
Google Analytics 4 does not store individual IP addresses.
The IP address is anonymized before it is recorded. GA4
does set cookies in your browser, specifically
_ga and _ga_*, which are used to
distinguish between visitors and sessions. These cookies
stay in your browser for up to two years unless you clear
them.
Data collected by Google Analytics may be transferred to and stored on Google servers in the United States. Google states that such transfers are covered by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and by standard contractual clauses.
Cookies
The only cookies the website sets are those placed by Google Analytics. I do not set any cookies of my own. You can block or delete these cookies at any time through your browser settings. Google also publishes an official opt-out browser add-on that prevents Analytics from tracking you across any site.
Third-party resources
The website loads fonts from Google Fonts and icon assets from the Font Awesome CDN. When your browser fetches these files, the relevant provider (Google and Cloudflare respectively) sees your IP address as part of the request. Neither provider receives any other information about you from this site.
Legal basis for processingUnder the GDPR, I rely on the following legal bases:
- Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) for the hosting logs kept by Firebase. Serving the website securely and preventing abuse is a legitimate interest, and the data involved is minimal and short-lived.
- Consent (Article 6(1)(a)) for Google Analytics. Analytics cookies are set only if you allow them, and you can withdraw that consent at any time by clearing the cookies or using the opt-out add-on.
If you are in the European Union, you have the following rights under the GDPR:
- The right to access the personal data I hold about you.
- The right to have inaccurate data corrected.
- The right to have your data erased.
- The right to restrict how your data is processed.
- The right to object to processing based on legitimate interests.
- The right to data portability.
- The right to withdraw consent at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before the withdrawal.
In practice, I do not hold any personal data about you. The only personal data connected to the website is held by Google, as described above. If you want to exercise any of these rights, you can contact me at the address at the top of the page, and I will help where I can, including pointing you to the relevant Google privacy controls.
RetentionI do not store personal data myself. Firebase Hosting logs are retained for approximately 30 days. Google Analytics data is retained according to the retention setting configured for this site, currently 14 months, after which it is automatically deleted.
ChangesIf this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with an updated date at the top. Continued use of the website after a change means you accept the new version.
